This Historic Hotels of America Inn is, as the name suggests, right on the Savannah River and it is essential to have a room overlooking the river as the views are wonderful. Savannah is one of the busiest ports in the US and to watch the huge tankers drift by dwarfing the sternwheelers moored along the quayside is hypnotising. As many of the buildings along the river, the River Inn was originally a cotton warehouse built in 1817 from recycled ballast stone and the origins are still to be seen in the hotel.
Within the hotel, there are two restaurants, several shops and a fitness centre.
Rooms
The 86 rooms are all very different. Some have hardwood floor, s and four poster beds, others have balconies, brick walls and carpets. Bedding varies as well with a combination of kings, queens and two queen beds.
