Rail Journeys in America

The railroads played a large role in the development of the United States from the industrial revolution in the Northeast to the settlement of the West. The railways are still a great way to travel around America whether you choose some of the express trains between major cities or Amtrak which still uses some of the historical routes. You can travel on trains with exotic names such as the California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco via the Rocky Mountains, the Colorado River and the Mississippi or the Crescent which plies daily between New York and New Orleans. One of our favourites is the Empire Builder between Chicago and Portland because not only can you visit Glacier National Park, the Cascade Mountains and the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum but you travel along the Columbia River and its Gorge.

Whether you choose to take to the rails under your own steam and let us plan your routes and stops or join a group tour, you will get a very different view of America than if you were to drive yourself.
The latest addition to the America rail scene is the renowned Rocky Mountaineer train. This luxury train travels between Denver, Colorado to Moab, Utah with a night in Glenwood Springs. We can combine the train with a tour from Moab to either Salt Lake Springs or Las Vegas or with a fly-drive holiday.
