Having specialised in holidays to Canada for over 20 years, Frontier Travel decided to explore over the border and see what the USA had to offer. The answer is, A LOT!
I have been lucky enough to head over to the USA on several occasions during this time, with highlights being the island of Hawaii, the city of San Francisco and the Californian coast, the city of Denver and the scenic Colorado mountains and of course the exciting and lively New York City.
I would love to explore the National Parks in Utah and can not wait to get back out to America on my next trip.

Sandra Potter
Founder of Frontier Travel
Having had a love of travel as long as I can remember, it was natural that I went into the travel business as a secretary over 50 years ago. I soon progressed to being a travel agent which nearly stopped when almost my first call was for a ticket to Lubumbashi – not only had I never heard of Lubumbashi, but I didn’t even known which continent it was on. Those were the days prior to computers and everything had to be looked up in enormous manuals and booked over the telephone.
However, I learnt fast, and it was not long before I was sent on my first educational trip to the US. They worked us hard – in 6 days, we visited New York, Washington, Phoenix and San Francisco! It was enough to make me realise that I wanted to return. Unable to get a Green card to work in the US, I moved to Canada in 1972 for two extraordinarily happy years during which I travelled all over Canada and the US. After my return to the UK, I had the opportunity to start selling holidays to Canada. I leapt at it and Frontier’s story started with an 8-page brochure featuring ski holidays to Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Whistler. 40 clients the first year, 80 the next and then suddenly we were up and away selling holidays to both Canada and America. It was all very exciting. These days I spend more time in the garden, taking my dog into the local hospice where he is a huge hit and, of course, travelling.
Since that first hectic trip, I have been lucky enough to visit America many times both on business and for pleasure. I love the open roads, the friendliness of the people, the sheer variety of terrain, food and experiences there are. I have ridden over the hills of Wyoming, watched alligators in Louisiana, seen the amazing “fall” colours of New England and whizzed down the sand dunes of Oregon. I have done more wine tastings than is good for my liver and eaten so many good things that my waistline expanded. But it is not only the great outdoors and National Parks of the US that are so extraordinary, thanks to generations of philanthropists, there are amazing art galleries, museums to be enjoyed, concerts to be listened to and sports events galore to be watched.

My first visit to America, perhaps like many, was to Orlando and Disney in Florida as a child. I have since returned to Florida several times learning that there is much more too it than just the theme parks.
My travels have taken me on a very memorable fly drive through Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah taking in the awe inspiring Canyonlands of The Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion and Moab! I have been back many times and have also headed over to Las Vegas, Scottsdale in Pheonix and most of California.
My long weekend just prior to Christmas in New York was fabulous, however a trip taking in Charleston, Atlanta and Nashville currently holds the top spot as my favourite experience, although my honeymoon to the Hawaiian island is a very close second!
Still on the hit list are New England, Texas and Chicago which I hope to visit in the near future.

I have been in travel for over 27 years and I have been lucky enough to have travelled to many different parts of the USA. My first adventure was skiing in Colorado, in the wonderful resorts of Winter Park, Aspen and Snowmass. I celebrated one of my milestone birthdays in New York, which was fabulous. It is such a wonderful city with so much to offer and see. My next trip is to the beautiful Florida Keys to sample what the hotels and areas have to offer.
My most recent trip was to Colorado and Utah travelling on the Rocky Mountaineer Red Rocks to Canyons route from Denver to Moab. It was such an amazing experience; my first time on the Rocky Mountaineer and the journey and service exceeded my expectations. It really was a trip of a lifetime and a wonderful experience from the moment we stepped on board. Highlights were the stunning scenery and landscapes, including the Ruby Canyon, Mount Garfield and crossing the Continental Divide. The Rocky Mountaineer team look after you so well and make the trip memorable.
Choosing a favourite place in the US is difficult as each place is unique and offers something different; from the beautiful national parks, the rich and fascination history, to deserts and beaches, the options are endless. I personally have visited New York, Las Vegas, California – Areas, Carmel, Santa Barbara, San Diego, San Francisco, Yosemite, San Luis Obispo, Lake Tahoe, Utah Areas – Park City, Snowbird, Deer Valley, Moab, Canyonlands, Salt Lake City. Colorado Areas, Denver, Winter Park, Glenwood Springs, Aspen Snowmass.
Places on my wish list are Wyoming & Montana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, New England, Washington
