Follow the Music Trail
Follow the Music Trail
Set the radio volume to high and prepare to sing along when you drive the musical highway as your Deep South fly-drive holiday takes you through the lands of country music and blues to jazz and beyond. Listen to Johnny Cash, visit the home of Elvis and sit in a bar in New Orleans listening to a jazz band. With direct flights from London to both Nashville and New Orleans, there is no need to retrace your steps on this one-way fly drive holiday through the Southern States, which can be driven in either direction.
This itinerary is flexible and can be tailor-made to suit you; if you want to add extra days in one area, extend the holiday or maybe change the direction of travel. Talk to one of our experts about how to make this holiday the perfect one for you.
We used Frontier Travel to book our honeymoon. We were given all the information we needed and everything ran seamlessly. We had a fantastic time, the hotels and lodges were perfect. Thank you for organising such a brilliant trip!

Frontier America recommends you spend at least three nights in Nashville to be able to appreciate The Music City. Greats, past and present, have performed here; visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman, Studio B, the Grand Opry – then relax in any number of bars and restaurants where you will hear the stars of the future performing.
3 nights Nashville
You have done the flying, now it is time to start the driving! Collect your car this morning for the 210-mile drive to Memphis. Again, we suggest three nights so that you can enjoy Graceland, home of Elvis, expanded in 2017 to better show off the King’s cars and home, where you will probably spend most of a day enjoying the site and the entertainment on offer. You will also want to visit the Sun Studio, the Stax Museum of Soul Music and the National Civil Rights Museum. You will also definitely want to walk down Beale Street, known as the Birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and visit the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.
3 nights Memphis

You will be heading towards Tuscumbia where so many artists have made recordings. Tuscumbia is composed of four towns: you will have the chance to visit the FAME recording studios, Muscle Shoals Studios, the home of WC Handy, the “Father of the Blues”. You will probably see studios in use and definitely see the equipment used by such greats as the Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart. Away from music, a visit to the Helen Keller house is well worth while and no visit to this part of the world is complete without a visit to Dreamland for an excellent barbeque.

A 5 ½ hour drive today to Mobile, driving through Birmingham and Montgomery where you could overnight if you would rather not drive that far in a day. Once in Mobile, you will be able to explore the battlegrounds of Forts Morgan, Gains and Condé, visit the USS Alabama Battleship or follow the black history trail complete with an Underground Railroad bike tour.

Your final day in the car takes you along the Gulf of Mexico into New Orleans, unless you would like to stay in one of the amazing Plantation homes such as Oak Alley or Houmas House in which case, please let us know.
On arrival in New Orleans, drop off your car and make your way to the hotel where you will stay for three nights, which will give you enough time to enjoy not only the music and the food, but also take time for a cruise on a Mississippi River sternwheeler (perhaps dinner with a live band?), a tour down River Road to see some of the magnificent plantation homes, a visit to the rather spooky and much filmed Lafayette Cemetery and a trip on an AirBoat through the swamps to see alligators up close and personal.

Time to pack up in time for the overnight flight to London or, if you haven’t seen enough or you have more time, you could extend your holiday with a Mississippi River Cruise back to Memphis via Natchez and Vicksburg.
J Smith - Travelled New York to Toronto
I have just returned from a tailor made holiday made possible by Jeannette Dembrey. This was the first time I had ever organised such a major holiday and as it was a gift for my children after my retirement it was really important to get things right. I went to quite a few agencies but Jeannette was way better than any of the people who I spoke to. She was so professional and wanted me to get the best from the money I could afford. The holiday was absolutely amazing and everything went like clockwork. Jeannette had thought of everything even the connections between places and the things we would do in each town. We stayed in 6 hotels altogether starting in New York and ending in Toronto. I am amazed at how smoothly it went. Even my son who has travelled all over the world was impressed with the way things had been organised. I cannot praise Jeannette enough for her professionalism. Thank you Jeannette. I would recommend you to anyone with the satisfaction of knowing that you did an amazing job. Thank you.
