Coast to Coast
Ride the rails with Amtrak as you go coast to coast on this all-encompassing tour that will take you to some of America’s most treasured landmarks.
Visit the world-famous Grand Canyon deep in the heartlands of Arizona, while also visiting four of the country’s biggest cities. Gawp at the Manhattan skyline, rub shoulders with the powerful on Capitol Hill, grab a slice of deep dish in Chicago and soak up the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles.
Your hotels will be centrally located 3.5 – 4* properties such as the Paramount in New York City and the Millennium Biltmore in Los Angeles. On board the trains, you will have a choice of coach accommodation which is a reclining seat, a roomette which is a private cabin with bunk beds which convert to comfortable seats during the day or a bedroom which has a sofa and chair during the day which convert to bunk beds for the night. Everyone has access to the Sightseer Lounge. Roomette and Bedroom accommodation prices include all meals.

Arrive in New York City and transfer on your own to your hotel. Then take the remainder of the day to enjoy the Big Apple at your leisure! Visit the world-famous Times Square, take in a Broadway show or enjoy one of the city’s fantastic eateries.
The next day you will board a double-decker sightseeing bus for a breath-taking tour of the city. You will be able hop on and off at your pleasure at over 30 different stops including Central Park, Fifth Avenue, the Empire State Building or the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This morning you will get your first taste of Amtrak with a morning departure on board the Acela train from the bustling Penn Station. Your destination? The nation’s capital, Washington, DC. When you arrive you will make your way to the Holiday Inn Capitol at the Smithsonian that will be your hotel for the next two nights. Take the remainder of the afternoon to explore this unique city.
The next day, you will take a guided sightseeing tour of DC’s top attractions and learn about the history of this magnificent city.

Most of today will be free for you to continue your sightseeing around DC. You could explore Georgetown, head to Capitol Hill to see where some of the world’s most powerful politicians do business or head to the White House, the historic home of the President of the United States. Then make your way to Union Station to board Amtrak’s Capitol Limited for your overnight journey to Chicago. Enjoy the passing scenery of Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio as you settle into your accommodation for the evening.

You will arrive early into Chicago before you transfer to your hotel, the Palmer House Hilton. From here you can hit the town for a full day of sightseeing. There is a hop on/hop off trolley tour that will take you the city’s most popular attractions including Millennium Park, Willis Tower and the Art Institute.
You will have a full day to explore the Windy City at your leisure. The city has many amazing museums, or alternatively you could spend some of your pocket money at some of the fine shops along the Magnificent Mile. Or visit the Lincoln Park Zoo in the heart of the city, followed by a stroll along the lakefront.

Today you will make your journey to Southern Rim of the Grand Canyon and you will do it in style aboard the vintage Grand Canyon Railway! Once you arrive you will embark on a narrated Freedom Tour of the South Rim: you will see some of the highlights of the Grand Canyon such as Mohave Point and Hermits Rest. Your hotel for the nights will be the Maswik Lodge or something similar, close to the Canyon.

Spend the morning exploring the South Rim on your own or take another guided tour. There are several historical buildings worth visiting including Buckey O’Neill’s Cabin, the longest continually standing structure in the South Rim; and Bright Angel Lodge with its small museum honouring Fred Harvey, who played a prominent role in popularizing the Grand Canyon. Opt to visit Mary Colter’s Lookout Studio and Hopi House, or take the shuttle to the Geology Museum at Yavapai Point or to the Visitor Center. Board the Grand Canyon Railway southbound to Williams Depot (Flagstaff) at 3:30 pm. Dinner this evening is at the Fred Harvey Restaurant before catching your train west to Los Angeles aboard the Southwest Chief.

This morning you will arrive early in Los Angeles before you transfer to the Millennium Biltmore in downtown LA. You will then have the rest of the day to explore the city at your leisure. See the Santa Monica Pier, shop on Rodeo Drive or visit the Getty Museum. The possibilities really are endless in this magnificent, modern metropolis.
Today you will have a sightseeing tour which will include Hollywood, the Sunset Strip, Rodeo Drive and Beverley Hills.

This was the first time I had ever organised such a major holiday and as it was a gift for my children after my retirement it was really important to get things right. I went to quite a few agencies but Jeannette was way better than any of the people who I spoke to. She was so professional and wanted me to get the best from the money I could afford. The holiday was absolutely amazing and everything went like clockwork. Jeannette had thought of everything even the connections between places and the things we would do in each town. We stayed in 6 hotels altogether starting in New York and ending in Toronto. I am amazed at how smoothly it went.
