Sacramento & Gold Country

Incorporated as the oldest city in California just a year after the Gold Rush to the Sierra Nevada began in 1849 with the largest human migration in the Western Hemisphere, Sacramento became the permanent state capital in 1854 and was also the western terminus of the Pony Express. The elegant city is alive with history, boasting 25 museums and celebrating its rich heritage with living history programmes at the 28-acre riverfront historic park of Old Sacramento and Sutter’s Fort. It also has a growing reputation for arts, with dozens of galleries in its mid-town area.

Activities in the area range from Gold Rush-orientated pursuits such as gold panning and stagecoach rides to white-water river rafting, mountain biking, caving and zip-lining. Highway 49 links some of the region’s oldest towns, several with surviving Gold Rush-era buildings.

Include a visit to Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, Coloma, where it all started, take a tour into the gold mine at Sutter Creek or pan for gold and ride a 100-year-old stagecoach in the preserved Gold Rush town of Columbia, a state historic park.

New York to Toronto – 2015 (Smith)

I have just returned from a tailor made holiday made possible by Jeannette Dembrey. This was the first time I had ever organised such a major holiday and as it was a gift for my children after my retirement it was really important to get things right. I went to quite a few agencies but Jeannette was way better than any of the people who I spoke to. She was so professional and wanted me to get the best from the money I could afford. The holiday was absolutely amazing and everything went like clockwork. Jeannette had thought of everything even the connections between places and the things we would do in each town. We stayed in 6 hotels altogether starting in New York and ending in Toronto. I am amazed at how smoothly it went. Even my son who has travelled all over the world was impressed with the way things had been organised. I cannot praise Jeannette enough for her professionalism. Thank you Jeannette. I would recommend you to anyone with the satisfaction of knowing that you did an amazing job. Thank you.
