Crater Lake

Crater Lake is one of the 7 Wonders of Oregon which should come as no surprise. It’s the deepest lake in America and is surrounded by cliffs almost 2,000 feet high and boasting a picturesque island with a violent volcanic past. The lake itself is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and is famous for its deep blue color and water clarity.

Crater Lake is also home to hikes in old-growth forest; hiking, backpacking, camping, picnicking and sightseeing are popular pursuits within the park, as are boating and scenic driving around Rim Drive on the southern side of the caldera.

The scenic route to Crater Lake passes through the scenic town of Klamath Falls, nicknamed “Oregon’s City of Sunshine”, a gorgeous spot for hiking and mountain biking, golfing at four famous courses, freshwater fishing and Oregon’s longest zipline. The oldest birding festival in the US also take place here.
